What was your gauge, at least with the size 8's? And do you have approximate finished measurements, maybe at the "bust" or underarm? I'd love to make this for my girlie but I want to be sure it will work. :) Thank you!
I love this pattern so much. I made it this week for my daughter out of my own handspun. Details on my blog. Just thought i'd share and say thanks for the cute pattern!
I'd love to make this for my grand daughter but... she's bigger, a size 8. Do you have a bigger pattern? Also I couldn't see where you use the size 6 needles.. casting on? Thank you
am totally going to make this with a variety of yarns, and on a variety of needles, both to give to some girls i know and to donate to even more. it's the greatest top ever!
Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I'm working on a size 7-8 for my oldest. Anyone who wants to make this larger and doesn't have time for me to get around to posting measurements, here's a good/easy way to custom fit it for your kid:
Measure chest/bust on said kid, multiply that by the gauge on the biggest needles, here our gauge is 4.5 st. Cast on that many stitches and continue with the pattern with that number, when you get to the arm holes, just bind off one quarter of your total stitches. It's as easy as that!
Thank you for such a cute pattern..and the helpful hints on sizing it up. My 7-yr-old will love to have one of these. I only wish I had my dk yarn here at work!
that is awesome. it is just the pattern i needed to see today. i ahve some great cascade cotton in a springy green. i can't wait to make this for my daughter. thanks for posting!
So cute! I need to make this for my 3 yr old. One question, which needles do you use to cast on for the neck/yoke? Do you start w/ 6 and change to 8 for the arm holes? Thank you so much!
ditto what sally said. I'm guessing its the 6's because it tells you to change to the 10's and change to the 8's at various points but not to the 6's so i'm guessing it is mostly on 6's. The only logical place to change mid pattern would be after the ribbing and it doesn't tell you to so i guess 6's?????????
Yes, cast on with 6's I've edited the original topic. I'm starting to doubt my thoughts on resizing it, so my apologies ahead of time to anyone who's trying it only to find out it doesn't work.
I was thinking that if you did it all on theh 6's and went a little bit longer, it woudl make a lovely little girl / baby dress. Was also wondering about making picot edges on teh sleeves and ends to make it a bit more pixie......will let you know if it works!
having tried the head over my 3 yr old and 6 year old I think that maybe if there are some extra increases in the round after the arms that might make it better for bigger girls and then a bit longer too......will again let you know if it works. This is a pattern that is so beautiful in its simplicity. I love it! Many thanks for sharing it Hope you can feel the good Karma coming your way.
Thanks so much for this! I just knit one for my daughter (20 months) and started another for her with long sleeves to bridge the Vermont Spring gap here! It's a delightful pattern with delightful results.
Thanks for this cute pattern! I've knit such a top and I love it! (plus: it was so easy to make!) Would you mind if I translated this pattern into German in my Blog? Of course I would link to this post and mention that the pattern is all yours! But for me it was quite difficult to understand the pattern at first... (all those funny abbreviations and so on... ;-) ) Love, Katharina
I absolutely love this pattern!!! I made one for my 2yr old and my 5yr old and they are just so cute!!! I am now making one with a bit of a flounce on the bodice...I'd love to email you a picture once it's completed. A question, can we sell from this pattern? Do you have a copy to purchase in order to sell from it? Thanks!!!
Hay Barb, I'm so glad you like the pattern. I do charge a small fee to sell from the pattern. If you're interested, please email me at shelleefloyd@gmail.com And you can send me that pic too!
Thanks for sharing this pattern. It's so simple and cute! I'm working on a larger one for my 6 year old (who's a size 7). Not sure how it'll turn out but I'll be sure to post it and link to you. Thanks again.
Ashley, for an adult, you'd need to do some major modifications for the bust...that OR, increase a BUNCH just above the bust line for a baby doll type look :)
Elana, in my world YO means "yarn over" to make one new stitch.
SO CUTE! Any chance you will be making one with a bulky yarn for winter months? I would love to see a pattern for it in a bulky yarn so I could make one. I am a new knitter and have no idea how to make the changes.
Hi, I am a beginner knitter and would love to give this pattern a go for my girl. But I think I'm having beginners brain as I can't find where the pattern is, please help!! :)

Wow that is so so cute that I would love to make one for myself ,too!!
Will try your gauge multiply chest/bust size and see if I can come up with one for myself!!

Oh yes, of course you can translate it!
What length needles are you using?
I use 32" needles, but this piece can be done on 16" cirs if that's all you have :)

i love this pattern -- any suggestions how i could make it for an adult size? or do you know of a similar pattern for adults? thanks!!
Does K1/YO mean yarn forward (yf)? This is increasing from 80 to 160 in beginning. Thanks!
